Music

Pop music, more than any other genre, depends on your ability to pose. A pop-star that can't pose is a nonsense contradiction in terms. The women of pop provide an endless stream of photoshoots, music videos, and public appearances. The shrewdest of these try on a million costumes and are still able to maintain a distinct persona. Some pop-stars are vessels for others who surrender themselves to blissed-out, melodies, beats, and poses and communicate this bliss to us, their unworthy audience. Some have ambitions as serious as a text-book and they use the medium and their poses to sometimes explicitly political ends. Some test the boundaries of what we mean by the term "pop." Some wrestle with their own status and fame. Some have no status, but produce the kind of sonic-bliss that no term other than "pop" can account for. Here, I'll be talking about people, songs, videos, and whatever else I think of or come across that fall into each, and often multiple of these categories. New discussions will be added peiodcally, so be sure to keep checking.
